Cowboys & Indians Closing Reception & Live Auction
Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, Washburn ND, November 20, 2014

"One More Prairie Flower"

Featured Artist, Havre Art Association Art Show, Havre MT, November 1-2

As the Jackrabbits fur turned white a drive to Havre MT was just right. BPH was their featured artist and participated in their Art Show for the first time.

He and his wife have worked in the Havre Public Schools numerous times as Artist in Residence. This provided an opportunity to connect with the public in a new way.

"Blue Soldiers War Bonnet, Spoils of War" was collected by a Vietnam War Veteran and Captain who admires the art of BPH and Arikara history.  The piece highlights a warrior winning honor over his enemy in battle.

Artist in Residence, Nelson-Atkins Museum, Kansas City MO, October
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is excited to be working with Monte in their Artist-in-Residence program.  Monte’s residency will be in conjunction with their upcoming exhibition The Plains Indians: Artists of Earth and Sky which celebrates the accomplishments of Plains Indian artists, not only as the makers of objects that sustain a tradition, but as the bearers of individual creative expression.
"We couldn't be happier that Monte is coming to Kansas City!  With his accomplishments as both an artist and educator, Monte is the
perfect fit for our program.  His passion for creating real and inspiring learning experiences is what really excites us about working Monte.  Not only does Monte teach others the history and traditions of his people, but he seeks to empower individuals to reflect on their own backgrounds and identify what really matters in their life." - Braden Conrad-Hiebner, Education Officer

Featured Artist, One Day Only, Frame Garden, Livingston MT, October 3
Catch him if you can...BPH is faster than the Gingerbread Man and busier too.  These collectors were very pleased to meet the artist-a man with no moss growing- before he rolls onto the next show.

SWAIA Fellowship, Santa Fe Art Institute, Santa Fe NM, August - September

Black Pinto Horse was awarded the Residency Fellowship.  He has begun his two month residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute where he has lodging and studio space.

Black Pinto Horse shares, “The Residency has brought me back to the location and time when I was young, stretching my wings in the world for the first time while attending the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe.  As a sixteen year old leaving the reservation for the first time, it was an experience that forever changed my life.  No longer young and impressionable, but with a direction, new knowledge & a good foundation, I look forward to this opportunity to accomplish new goals."

Santa Fe Indian Art Market, Santa Fe NM, August 22 & 23

Black Pinto Horse was invited to be a judge and shares, "Being invited to participate as a judge in the Southwest Association for Indian Arts 93rd Santa Fe Indian Market was a great honor for me.  I would be one of the first to view a collection of world class First Nation artists from across the US and Canada. They travel many miles to participate and educate the world to both traditional and contemporary Native Arts.It was amazing to see the influences that inspired them to create their final works, each piece deserving of careful viewing and consideration."

The green chilies were tasty, the weather fantastic, and the market most memorable.  Thank you to the collectors and fans for your continued support.

One Person Show, Frame Garden, Livingston MT, July- August

Art depraved patrons walked weather beaten streets, sweat dripping from their brows as they pushed and clawed themselves into the gallery.

Good weather was a plus as a steady flow of crowds came to visit with BPH about his work Friday of the Art Walk.  Although a local, BPH is not home often to interpret his works with closest collectors.  It was a nice opportunity with much interest.

Guest Artist, Grand Teton National Park WY, July 15- 21
Hot off the artist's desk- Visitors from all over the globe admired the work of BPH.  A couple from United Kingdom made a thoughtful investment, purchasing "Your Flag Will Fly High in Enemy Territory", which had been on the market for less than a month.
A happy camper...this young man watched the artist work on what would become a piece he pleaded with his mother to buy.  With much excitement they have added it to the family collection.

"Healing the Memory of War" Commission
Native American Veterans Recovery, Urban Indian Center of Salt Lake

Black Pinto Horse dedicates this piece to the Native American Veterans of Salt Lake City UT and shares:

"Don't let controversy or the instability of others stop you from doing the Creator's work or let discouraging, lost souls separate you from giving back to those in need.

I would like to honor my father Willard Yellow Bird Sr.("Wolf Trail"- US Navy), Uncle Matt Holding Eagle Sr.("Jumps Over the Enemy"- US Army) and many other family that served our people proudly. I would encourage everyone to remember your loved ones who served- they will find peace in your prayers."

"I love it and I know our Native Veterans will love it as well. I’m so excited to begin using this.  It has been such a blessing to both our agency and our community that Monte was able to provide us with such a beautiful piece of work."
